Pemonia lies at the foot of the "Lefka Ori" mountain range. It is a traditional settlement with a strong Cretan spirit.  The traditional architecture is preserved in excellent condition. It's extensive mountainous tracts is where the old ways of life-stock rearing still takes place, encompassing also the area of "Hosses". The inhabitants occupy themselves primarily with agriculture and farming, the gathering of aromatic plants and flowers and also with the art of basket-weaving and chair making. Some people are involved solely in creating baskets and hampers and chair manufacture that are then bought by local people or sold to visitors from abroad. There are still organised traditional Cretan workshops that produce seats "Pemonian chairs" and traditional wood carved furniture. In Pemoina you can find old churhes, among them the byzantine church of Agios Georgios. Among the arable tracts of land you can encounter threshing floors, caves, an old olive press, a communal well and a gorge.
